Singer-songwriter Cindy Bédard received the SOCAN Best Song Award for “Ça fait longtemps” (“It’s Been a Long Time”) as part of the Prix Étoiles Galaxie competition of the 45th annual Festival Western de St. Tite on Sept. 12, 2012. Singer-songwriter and 2012 festival spokesperson Éric Goulet, along with country rock singer-songwriter Véronique Labbé, and SOCAN’s Stéphanie Falco, presented the $1,000 cash award.

Located north of Trois-Rivières between Montreal and Quebec City, the St. Tite Western Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to a town of just a few thousand. This year’s Sept. 7-16 extravaganza presented country and western artists and a multitude of outdoor events, from dance and film presentations to fairs and karaoke events. The 2012 festival also set a Guinness world record for the largest line dance.
