Ten young music creators from the Urban Arts Beats. Mind. Movement. program visited The Harmony Lounge in SOCAN's Toronto offices on Feb. 21, 2018, where they enjoyed a pizza lunch, shared their beats, learned what SOCAN can do for them, and signed up as members.

The emerging talents – hosted by SOCAN A&R Representative Melissa Cameron and A&R Administrator Stacey Ottman – are Aaliyah-Ashley Grant, David Linardi, Travis Williams, Hamed Hamed, Lauren Finesterre, Kasim Jules, Jahfarri Ricketts, Daniel Kai, Jahmar Wright, and August Riik.

Beats. Mind. Movement. is a free music programming initiative dedicated to providing youth between the ages of 16 and 24 with the knowledge, skills, and mentorship needed to succeed in today’s evolving music industry. In each five-month cycle, the program selects 15 artists to gain skills and develop a stronger understanding of key elements in the world of recording arts.

As part of their training, the young music creators connect to the music community at large, including of arts and culture networks, through industry events, field trips, and educational opportunities – including those at SOCAN.

SOCAN welcomes the Beats. Mind. Movement. participants as new members!
