Belly wins first-ever SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Award, three others
SOCAN belatedly presented Ahmad "Belly" Balshe with four 2016 SOCAN Awards, including the prestigious, first-ever Songwriter of the Year honour -- which he shares with his frequent co-writer The Weeknd -- in Los Angeles in late June of 2016.
Belly also won both the SOCAN International Song Award and a SOCAN Pop/Rock Music Award for co-writing "The Hills," as well as another Pop/Rock Music Award for co-writing "Earned It" -- both songs being huge worldwide hits for The Weeknd. All of these awards are based on radio spins and market share, so it's clear that Belly's songwriting is clearly connecting with a very large audience.
In addition to being The Weeknd's "go-to" co-writer, Belly is now signed to his own U.S. record deal with Jay Z's Roc Nation label, and has released his first album with them, Another Day In Paradise.
"Earned it" also earned a Pop/Rock Music Award for Belly's fellow co-writer, Jason “DaHeala” Quenneville, who was presented with the honour at the same time and place.

In addition to Belly, The Weeknd and DaHeala, “Earned It” is co-written by Stephan Moccio, and published by SAL&CO, Sing Little Penguin, SONGS Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing Canada, and Warner Chappell Music Canada Ltd.
SOCAN once again congratulates Belly and DaHeala on their great career accomplishments!
