BMI celebrates SOCAN members’ accomplishments

BMI celebrated the SOCAN member songwriters of some of the year’s most-performed pop songs during the 65th Annual BMI Pop Awards, held May 9, 2017, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

SOCAN songwriters who earned BMI Pop Awards at the 2017 edition are:

  • Ruth B for “Lost Boy”
  • Alessia Cara for “Here” and “Wild Things”
  • Shaun Frank for “Closer,” performed by The Chainsmokers
  • Tobias Jesso Jr. for “When We Were Young,” performed by Adele
  • Shawn Mendes for “Treat You Better”
  • Carlo “Illangelo” Montagnese for "The Hills," performed by fellow SOCAN member The Weeknd
  • Jon Levine for "Stand by Me," performed by Rachel Platten

The next night, at the same venue, BMI held its 2017 Film, TV & Visual Media Awards.

The SOCAN #ComposersWhoScore who earned BMI Film, TV & Visual Media Awards in 2017 are:

  • Jeff Danna and Mychael Danna, Film Music Award for Storks
  • Keith Power, Television Music Awards for both Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver
  • Clinton Shorter, Television Music Award for Code Black
  • Voodoo Highway (James Chapple, Graeme Cornies, David Kelly and Brian Pickett), Streaming Media Award for Creative Galaxy
