Brian “Sweetwesty” West earns SOCAN No. 1 Song Award for Arkells’ “Private School”

SOCAN was pleased and proud to present a No. 1 Song Award to Brian “Sweetwesty” West honouring his co-write of Arkells’ "Private School,” which reached the summit of the Nielsen BDS Modern Rock Chart, on Aug. 29, 2016.

West is a JUNO Award-winning producer, songwriter, and musician, of the production team Track and Field, and band The Philosopher Kings, best known for his work with Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5, Awolnation, K'naan, and Bono. His co-writers, Arkells members Tim Oxford, Nick Dika, Max Kerman, and Mike DeAngelis, will be honoured at a later date.

"Private School” is published by Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada, whose representatives Gary Furniss and David Quilico were simultaneously presented with a No. 1 Song Award. "Private School” is co-published by Pick and Roll Music, Oh C’Mon, Friends With Salad Publishing, and Tim Oxford Publishing, all of which are administered by Words & Music Publishing.

SOCAN Chief Membership & Business Development Officer Michael McCarty presented the awards on April 1, 2017, during JUNO Week 2017 in Ottawa.
