SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste chosen one of Billboard's International Power Players

May 29, 2017

SOCAN is pleased and proud that its CEO Eric Baptiste has been chosen as one of Billboard magazine's 53 International Power Players for 2017 – the executives "driving industry success outside the United States." This honour recognizes our commitment to lead the global transformation of music rights.

As Billboard reported on May 26, 2017, "Baptiste reported record results for the Canadian performing rights organization for 2016 with collections of $330-million CDN. He also has guided SOCAN's acquisition of the U.S. copyright-administration companies Audiam and MediaNet, which 'provide us with technology and data that very few [performing rights organizations] around the world match.'"

The Billboard honour recognizes that, in the constantly evolving world of copyright in the digital environment, SOCAN has been positioning itself as a global leader. The acquisitions of Audiam and MediaNet have vastly improved SOCAN's technology, data and expertise, with Audiam providing state-of-the-art identification, collection and distribution services for YouTube music performances, and MediaNet offering unsurpassed data matching capabilities that will allow us to get our members paid more, faster, and more accurately.

Similarly, SOCAN's work to develop application programming interface (API) technology has allowed us to introduce the first of many resources that enable software developers to create applications that integrate with our technology platforms. This will pay more dividends for members as we make submitting and tracking music data more accurate and thorough.

SOCAN congratulates our CEO on this great honour!
