Jocelyn Alice honoured for co-writing “The Drugs”

SOCAN presents Alice with No. 1 Song Award for Mother Mother chart-topper

SOCAN presented a No. 1 Song Award to Jocelyn Alice for co-writing Mother Mother’s chart-topping song “The Drugs,” which scaled the peak of the Nielsen BDS Modern Rock Chart on February 6, 2017. The award was presented during a visit to SOCAN’s Toronto offices on Nov. 30, 2017, where Alice also sat for a brief video interview, to be posted shortly on socan.ca.

SOCAN Director, A&R, Rodney Murphy presented Alice with the award, calling her a triple threat as an artist, a songwriter for herself, and a songwriter for other people He also said, “As a father of two daughters, it’s empowering to see a strong woman like yourself succeed like this.” SOCAN A&R Administrator Melissa Cameron and frequent Jocelyn Alice co-writer Lisa Jacobs were also present, as was Ainsley Gilkyson, a representative of Sony Music Canada, Alice’s label.

In addition to Alice, “The Drugs” was also co-written by Mother Mother frontman Ryan Guldemond, Thomas "Tawgs" Salter, Ali Siadat, Maia Davies, and David Mohacsi (all of whom have already been presented with their No. 1 Awards for the song). “The Drugs” is published by Mother Mother Ship, Universal Music Publishing Canada, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada, Kobalt Music Publishing Canada, Inside Pocket, and CCS Rights Management.
