SOCAN A&R Executive Guillaume Moffet and Warner Chappell publisher Vivan Barclay presented KINLEY with the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Award at the 2017 edition of the Music PEI Awards. The trophies were distributed throughout the May Run Music Festival, held May 10-14 in Charlottetown, PEI. KINLEY (a.k.a. Kinley Dowling) also earned the honours for New Artist and  Female Solo Recording of the Year, for Letters Never Sent.

Other multiple winners of Music PEI Awards included Paper Lions, who earned four honours, including Digital Achievement, Video (“Believer”), Pop Recording and Group Recording of the Year (both for Full Colour) – which was a tie with Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, for Auprès du Poêle. That album also took home prizes for Album and Roots Recording of the Year. For a complete list of award winners, click here. Dylan Menzie earned the honours for Entertainer and Male Solo Recording of the Year (for Adolescent Nature).

As part of the Canadian Song Conference, May 10-13, leading up to the festival, SOCAN’s Moffet participated in two panels, “Chasing Digital Dollars – Music Royalties and Streaming” and “Know Your Rights – The Music Rights Organization Panel.” The three days of sessions focused on generating income from songs, and panels included delegates from Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Australia.
