Nolin wins SOCAN Best Song Award at 2012 Granby fest
Singer-songwriter Safia Nolin received the SOCAN Best Song Award for her song “L’Igloo” as part of the 44th annual Granby International Song Festival, held Sept. 5-15, 2012. SOCAN member Patrice Michaud, one of the award ceremony’s guest artists, presented Nolin with the $1,000 cash prize as part of the last semi-finals of the competition in Granby’s Palace Theatre.
Besides its Best Song Award, SOCAN, as a Gold Partner, also supports the Granby Festival by sponsoring the Carrefour chanson SOCAN, a series of training sessions for semi-final contestants, that this year included a workshop on the Great Copyright Puzzle presented jointly by SOCAN, SPACQ and SODRAC. SOCAN Training and Industry Relations Specialist Stéphanie Falco attended the presentation ceremony. The finals of the 2012 Granby competition will be held on Saturday Sept. 15, as part of a gala presentation featuring the popular Acadian rap group Radio Radio.
