May 2, 2017

SOCAN is pleased to announce that Onix Belleus is the company's new Chief Financial Officer.

Belleus joins SOCAN, the largest organization in Canada's music ecosystem, continuing his comprehensive and accomplished career in the United States and Canada, most recently serving as Vice-President, Finance & Administration, with a large retail organization, with more than $30-billion in revenue, in the US. In this role he oversaw aspects of finance, accounting, human resources, information technology, and web operations, while leading annual corporate strategic planning processes. He also worked for Nortel Networks in Santa Clara, California as a Director of Finance & Accounting and was the Corporate Controller with All American Semiconductor, Inc., of Miami.

"Onix Belleus has an impressive record as a transformation agent, and has the experience and skills that SOCAN needs going forward," said SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste. "His background in equity financing, strategic planning, strategic negotiations, acquisitions and strategic alliances, as well as his expertise in fundamental financial management, are a perfect fit for us, and I’m delighted that he is now an important part of our excellent executive team."

Belleus is a citizen of both Canada and the United States and is fluent in English and French. In addition to all things financial, he has a passion for music and a steadfast belief in fair music rights.

"Returning to Canada to merge my professional career with my lifelong love of music could not be better," Belleus said. "To join SOCAN at what is the most exciting and interesting time in its history is a wonderful opportunity. I can't wait to get to work to help build SOCAN and nurture the careers of the company's almost 150,000 songwriter, composer and music publisher members."

A Certified Public Accountant, Belleus holds a Master of Business Administration (Finance and Accounting) and a Bachelor of Commerce (minor: Economics) degrees from the University of Ottawa, and is a member of both the Association for Finance Professionals and the American Institute of CPAs.

Onix Belleus succeeds David Wood as CFO of SOCAN. Wood departed the organization amicably in late 2016 to pursue new career opportunities after 15 years with the organization. Belleus's career with SOCAN begins on May 8, 2017.
