Sarah Felker wins $25,000 RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize
Canada’s Walk of Fame and National Premier Partner RBC have announced Sarah Felker as the Grand Prize Winner of the 2014 RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize, after submissions were received from more than 200 gifted young musicians from across Canada. Felker will receive a cash prize of $25,000 along with performance opportunities, private studio time at Metalworks Studio and The Tragically Hip’s private recording studio, mentored by Gord Sinclair, introductions to music executives, a music industry career development session and album cover artwork.
Felker, a 20-year-old from Guelph, has already opened for K'NAAN, met with major label record executives from Universal Music Canada and Warner Music Canada, and has been the subject of a documentary on OutTV (Better Day: The Sarah J. Felker Story) that followed her for three years, including a trip to Jamaica to re-connect with her estranged father.
The Second Prize Winner is Angelique Francis, and the five other finalists in the contest were:
