SOCAN members SATE, Savannah Ré, and Meryem Saci impressed a roomful of music supervisors and other music industry personnel at a SOCAN “lunch, learn, and listen” reception, info session and showcase on Nov. 30, 2017, in the Harmony Lounge of the SOCAN Toronto office.

The showcase portion of the event, presented to members of the newly formed Canadian Chapter of the Guild of Music Supervisors, gave the three members an opportunity to present their music, live, to the very people who are able to place it in movies, TV programs, videogames, and online productions. The artists and their management had several one-on-one conversations with the supervisors, and the intimate environment made networking a breeze.

The info session clearly and pro-actively explained to music supervisors – and by extension, their clients – how music performance rights are cleared in Canada for screen productions and synchronizations. The artists also enjoyed the info session, and had a lot to contribute, reinforcing the point that our overall mission is to ensure that music creators are getting fairly compensated for the use of their work.

Among the industry attendees were Natalie Nerie from Instinct Entertainment; Christine Leslie, the Executive Producer/Director of Licensing at TA2 Sound and Music; Gavin Alexander, Music Supervisor from Vapour RMW; and Caron Nightingale Director of sales for APM Canada, and the owner of Nightingale Music Productions. A PowerPoint presentation will also be circulated to all members of the Canadian Chapter of the Guild of Music Supervisors.

The event was organized by Holly Fagan-Lacoste, SOCAN New Media & Media Licensing Agent, Licensing Department, with support from SOCAN's Licensing Department management, and colleagues Jason Abdool, Keziah Carter, and Olivia Burgess.
