Seven SOCAN members win in 2013 Canadian Screen Awards

Seven SOCAN members were honoured in the musical categories at the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards – which merge the existing Genie Awards for film and Gemini Awards for television – and which were held Feb. 27, 28, and March 3, 2013.

The winners are:

Achievement in Music - Original Song
Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw of Metric, and Howard Shore (ASCAP) - Cosmopolis - "Long To Live"

Best Original Music for a Non-Fiction Program or Series
Semisweet: Life in Chocolate, TVO (TVOntario) - Ohad Benchetrit, Justin Small

Best Original Music Score for a Series
Flashpoint – “Day Game,” CTV (Bell Media) - Amin Bhatia, Ari Posner

A few days before the hardware was handed out, SOCAN held an intimate but festive reception for its member nominees, at the Sassafraz restaurant in downtown Toronto on Feb. 26, 2013.  With approximately 35 people in attendance, including 10 nominees, SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste and Membership Manager Jason Belo made a presentation honouring the highly talented composers in the room.
