SOCAN activities planned for BreakOut West, WCMAs 2012

Jay Semko will host the SOCAN Songwriters Circle at BreakOut West 2012. Semko will also receive the 2012 Hall of Fame Award as part of The Northern Pikes.

SOCAN will present a workshop, host a songwriters circle, and sponsor the Songwriter of the Year Award at the 2012 edition of the BreakOut West conference, scheduled for Sept. 27-30 at the host hotel, The Regina Inn in Regina, Sask., and the affiliated Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMAs), slated for Sept. 30 at Casino Regina.

Terry O’Brien, SOCAN Education and Outreach Manager, and Michelle Dubuc, SOCAN Account Executive, Radio & Concerts, will present a "Fundamentals of SOCAN" workshop on Sept. 28 at the Cypress Room of the host hotel. As well, we'll present a SOCAN Songwriters Circle featuring host Jay Semko (who will also receive the 2012 Hall of Fame Award as part of The Northern Pikes), Bob Kemmis, Tenille, and Greg MacPherson, on Sept. 30 at the host hotel.

SOCAN also sponsors the Songwriter of the Year Award at the Western Canadian Music Awards ceremony that closes the conference. The nominees  are Dan Mangan for “Post-War Blues”; Harry Manx and Kevin Breit for “Carry My Tears Away”; Jason Plumb for “Sweet Misery”; Ryan Boldt of The Deep Dark Woods for “The Place I Left Behind”; and Sarah MacDougall for “Sometimes You Lose, Sometimes You Win.”
