SOCAN and SOCAN Foundation proudly showcase our members’ music during SXSW 2018

SOCAN effectively showcased its members’ music at various events during the 2018 edition of South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas.

On the afternoon of March 14, the annual Canadian Blast BBQ concert was held – an initiative organized by Music Export Canada, for which SOCAN proudly partnered – at the outdoor stage of the Swan Dive club, feauring performances by Cadence Weapon, Partner, Yamantaka//Sonic Titan, AHI, Lisa LeBlanc, and Dear Rouge. SOCAN also co-presented the Meet the Canadians Annual SXSW Music Mixer, also at the Swan Dive, right before the Canadian Blast BBQ – a one-hour international networking event with a highly-targeted guest list drawn from around the globe.

The following afternoon, at the same venue, as part of Canada House, The SOCAN Foundation co-sponsored a showcase featuring performances by Milk and Bone, Savannah Re, and Dear Rouge, among others. SOCAN also co-sponsored all of the Canada House showcases at the Swan Dive. A number of current and potential SOCAN member artists and bands showcased at the Planète Québec series, too.

Attending these events at SXSW 2018 were SOCAN’s Michael McCarty, Rodney Murphy, Melissa Cameron-Passley, Racquel Villagante, Steven Ambers, Geneviève Coté, and Ryan Maule, as well as SOCAN Foundation represntatives Charlie Wall-Andrews and Julien Boumard Coallier.

Additionally, SOCAN IT representatives Ed Vetere, Tobi Akinwumi, Trevor Jackson, and Eric Nguyen attended various tech-oriented events, such as the SXSW Accelerator, Startup Spotlight, various pitches, and the annual hackathon – where blockchain and artificial intelligence were the hot topics of the day.
