SOCAN celebrated at the Shade Luxury Hotel Redondo Beach in South Redondo, California, on Dec. 8, 2016, with its first annual Holiday Beach Party.

The reception, which ran from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. – the better to see the beautiful sunset – drew more than 100 SOCAN members and key music industry representatives. James Villeneuve, The Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles, spoke and presented several awards. The big buzz of the night was the recently-released 2017 Grammy nominations.

The gathering also allowed us to present several SOCAN No. 1 Song Awards to our members.

As per the photo at the top, Simon Wilcox was honoured for her co-write "Bungalow" reaching the top of the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 Chart on Nov. 21, 2014, as performed by her co-writer Scott Helman. The pair co-wrote the song with Thomas “Tawgs” Salter and Ron Lopata.
