SOCAN honours Billy Talent with No. 1 Song Award

SOCAN held a celebration with SOCAN members Billy Talent – Ben Kowalewicz, Ian D’sa, Jonathan Gallant, Aaron Solowoniuk and Jordan Hastings – on April 1, 2017, at The Westin Hotel in downtown Ottawa during JUNO Week. 

SOCAN Chief Membership and Business Development Officer Michael McCarty presented the band with their SOCAN No. 1 Song Award for “Afraid of Heights,” which topped the Nielsen BDS Album Rock chart on Aug. 21, 2016. The songs are published by EMI April Music Canada and Dudebox Music.

Representatives of Billy Talent’s entire team attended the presentation as well: Gary Furniss, David Quilico and Mishelle Pack of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the parent company of EMI April Music Canada, the band’s publisher; Stephanie Hernandez, of Revelation Management Group, a division of Red Light Management, which manages Billy Talent; from the band’s record label, Warner Music Canada, President Steve Kane, Dave Stelling, Steve Coady, Ron Lopata, Steve Waxman, John Poirier, Mary Jelley, Donald Robins, Dean Pogue, Dale Kotyk, Doug Raaflaub, Kelly Anglin, Victor Mijares, and Mitch DePalma; Ralph James, from the UTA booking agency, who book the group; and SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste, President Stan Meissner, and Legal Counsel Gilles Daigle, as well as SOCAN’s Kathryn Hamilton, Melissa Cameron, Jeff Knights and Howard Druckman.

Members of SOCAN for more than a decade, Billy Talent are truly appreciative of SOCAN’s continued support over the years, and were pleased to be celebrated for their achievement!
