SOCAN was pleased to honour Ian Thornley with a No. 1 Song Award for “Albatross,” recorded by his band Big Wreck, which hit the peak of the Nielsen BDS Album Rock chart for six weeks straight starting Feb. 20, 2012.

SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste presented Thornley with his plaque July 25, 2012, on the patio of the Spice Route restaurant in downtown Toronto.

Thornley's manager Andy Curran, of SRO Management, accepted a plaque as well, on behalf of the song's publisher, Mark Cain Music Publishing.

Thornley's bandmates in Big Wreck also attended the event, as did SOCAN's Andrew Berthoff, Irene Zeltway, Jason Belo, Rodney Murphy, Ted Seto and Jeff Knights.
