SOCAN member Drake earns record-breaking 13 nominations for 2016 American Music Awards

SOCAN member Drake has earned a record-breaking 13 nominations for the 2016 edition of the American Music Awards, breaking the record set by Michael Jackson, who earned 11 of them in 1984.

Other nominated SOCAN members include The Weeknd, who was tipped as Artist, Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Male Artist -- Soul/R&B of the Year, as well as Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes, both of whom earned the nod in the New Artist of the Year category. That brings the total number of SOCAN member nominations to 18, excluding the Suicide Squad soundtrack, which includes a song by SOCAN member Grimes.

The American Music Awards are slated for Nov. 20, 2016, in Los Angeles. The winners are determined by public voting, but only U.S. residents are allowed to vote. For a full list of nominees, click here.
