SOCAN members named to Order of Canada
SOCAN members Grit Laskin, Stephen Chatman, Allan Gordon Bell, Silver Donald Cameron and Gilles Tremblay are among the latest round of appointments to the Order of Canada, announced by Governor General David Johnston on June 29, 2012.
All were inducted as Members of the Order, except Tremblay, who was recognized as an Officer of the Order. These inductions are Canada's highest civilian honour, recognizing lifetime achievement. The recipients will receive their citations at a later date.
Laskin is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, author, world-renowned guitar luthier and founder of the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Chatman, Bell and Tremblay are among Canada's most prominent classical music composers, and Chatman won the 2010 SOCAN Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award. Silver Donald Cameron is a journalist, writer, educator, consultant and dedicated community activist.
