SOCAN presented four No. 1 Song Awards to professional songwriter Thomas “Tawgs” Salter over lunch at the Drake One Fifty on York Street, in the heart of downtown Toronto, on Sept. 23, 2017.

Salter earned the honours for co-writing chart-topping hits for Mother Mother, Walk Off the Earth, Scott Helman, and Serena Ryder, as follows:

  • "The Drugs," performed by Mother Mother; co-written by Salter, Ryan Guldemond, Maia Davis, David Mohacsi, Ali Siadat, and Jocelyn Alice; co-published by Mother Mother Ship, Universal Music Publishing Canada, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada; which topped the Nielsen BDS Modern Rock Chart on Feb. 6, 2017.
  • "Fire In My Soul," performed by Walk off the Earth; co-written by Salter, Sarah Blackwood, Joel Cassady, Ryan Marshall, Giancarlo Nicassio, and Mike Wise; co-published by Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada and Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd. Canada; which topped the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 Countdown on March 9, 2017.
  • "Kinda Complicated," performed by Scott Helman; co-written by Salter, Helman, and Ron Lopata; co-published by Egg Songs/Downtown Music and Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada; which reached the top of the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 Countdown on April 6, 2017.

"Electric Love," performed by Serena Ryder, co-written by Salter, Ryder, and Mike Wise; co-publshed by Universal Music Publishing Canada and Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada; which reached the top of the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 Countdown on May 18, 2017.
