SOCAN presents hip-hop showcase at SXSW 2012

SOCAN presented a hip-hop showcase at Canada House, co-sponsored the Canadian Blast BBQ & Showcase, and maintained a presence at the Canada Stand during the 2012 edition of South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference and Festival, from Mar. 13-18 in Austin, Texas.

On March 17, SOCAN presented the day party at Canada House, located at Trinity Hall (Old School Bar & Grill). The event showcased hip-hop company Droppin’ Science Productions' artists and special guests, including Ghettosocks, Timbuktu, Muneshine, and The Extremities.

On March 14, SOCAN co-sponsored the Canadian Blast under the “Big Top” at Brush Square, featuring performances from Library Voices, Whitehorse, Said the Whale, Zeus, Rich Aucoin and The Sheepdogs.

SOCAN was also among the Canadian companies with a presence at the Canada Stand during the SXSW trade show, running March 12-15. SOCAN personnel attending the conference were education & outreach manager Rodney Murphy (Central & Atlantic); education & outreach specialist Stéphanie Falco (Quebec); and account executives Michelle Dubuc (Western Canada) and Peter Fera (Central & Atlantic).

A sizable contingent of Quebec-based artists also performed in the annual Planète Québec event that runs throughout the festival. Among those featured in both day and night showcases at the Spill Bar were Ariane Moffat, Ian Kelly, Karim Ouellet, Leif Vollebekk, and Plants and Animals.
