SOCAN presents No. 1 Song Award for "Together We Are One"
SOCAN was pleased and proud to present two of the co-writers and one of the publishers of the chart-topping Serena Ryder hit “Together We Are One” with a No. 1 Song Award, for scaling the peak of the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 on July 10, 2015. The award was presented at the SOCAN offices on Monday July 18, 2016.
“Together We Are One” was co-written by Jasmine Denham, Murray Daigle and Bobby John, and published by Bloc Notes Music Publishing and Cymba Music. Denham, Daigle and Cymba Music’s Vince Degiorgio were able to receive their award plaques, while the other participants have received them in Montréal. Also attending the presentation were Natalie Bogdanovic and Isabel Crack of the Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.), and SOCAN's Rodney Murphy.
In late 2013, Denham, Daigle and John met at a songwriting session of the Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.) “Songworks Pro” writing camp at Coalition Music studios, hosted by then-camp producer Degiorgio. As an experiment, Degiorgio made the 2015 PanAm Games the day’s premise for the collaborating songwriters. "Together We Are One" was co-written, and a demo produced, in a single day. He and Isabel Crack, Managing Director of the S.A.C., personally delivered the demo to the PanAm Games cultural officials. It was immediately placed on hold for the theme song, and many months later, “Together We Are One” won a juried contest and became the PanAm theme. All three writers were invited to play and sing on the Serena Ryder recording of it, which then went to No. 1 on CBC Radio 2.
SOCAN congratulates all of the participants in the song, and the organizers of the S.A.C. songwriting camp, on this great success!
