SOCAN was pleased and proud to present three No. 1 Song Awards to our hit-making members during JUNO Week 2018 in Vancouver.

On Friday March 23, 2018, after Terra Lightfoot (in photo above) performed a few songs in the TD Green Room at The Parq Hotel, SOCAN surprised her with a No. 1 Song Award for the single "Paradise," which topped the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 on Sept. 14, 2017. The song is published by CCS Rights Management, whose founder and owner/operator Jodie Ferneyhough and Creative Manager, Jordan Howard were on hand for the presentation. Terra’s management/label team from Sonic Unyon, Mark Milne and Tim Potocic, were also on-site to surprise her.

On the same day, just outside the same venue, after a brief video interview with SOCAN, we surprised Ruth B. with a No. 1 Song Award for the single "Superficial Love," which scaled the peak of the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 on April 27, 2017. The song is published by Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada, whose representative David Quilico was on hand to receive the award as well.

And on March 24, 2018 – before they appeared at JUNO Fan Fare, in the Metrotown Metropolis mall in Burnaby, BC – SOCAN presented a two No. 1 Song Awards to songwriting Arkells members Tim Oxford, Nick Dika, Max Kerman and Mike DeAngelis. They were honoured for co-writing "Knockin’ At the Door," which reached the top of the Nielsen BDS Album Rock Chart on May 15, 2017, and “Private School,” which topped the same chart on Aug. 29, 2016, and was co-written with Brian West (who received his plaque earlier).

Both songs are published by Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada, Words & Music Notes Canada, and Words & Music Tunes Canada (all of whom received their plaques earlier). SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste, SOCAN Board of Directors President Stan Meissner, and SOCAN A&R Representative Melissa Cameron-Passley attended the presentation to celebrate with The Arkells.

SOCAN congratulates all of these 2018 JUNO nominees on their No. 1 hit songs!
