Sony Music Canada has presented SOCAN with a gold record for its support of Ruth B, whose album Safe Haven went platinum in Canada (80,000 units sold) and single “Lost Boy” went gold (40,000 units).

SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste, Chief Membership and Business Development Officer Michael McCarty, and Director, A&R, Rodney Murphy proudly accepted the honour in Baptiste’s office in Toronto on Oct. 11, 2017.

SOCAN has been pleased to support Ruth B for several years, so far. She received a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award for “Lost Boy” topping the Much Music Countdown chart in 2016. The song also earned a Pop Music Award at the SOCAN Awards in 2017, where the young singer also performed a beautiful rendition of Lifetime Achievement Award winner Bryan Adams’ song “Heaven,” in his presence. SOCAN has also conducted several video interviews with Ruth B telling the story of her journey, and explaining her songwriting process.

“We’ve always been enthusiastic supporters of Ruth B, ever since she first emerged on Vine,” said Eric Baptiste. “She’s a great example of the sort of artist who can grow and develop in the Canadian music ecosystem and then take over the world. And she’s a great role model for young singer-songwriters.”

SOCAN congratulates Ruth B on her great achievements, and we thank her, Sony Music Canada, and her entire team for sharing them with us!
