The work of 49 SOCAN #ComposersWhoScore will be on display in the 32 movies for which they created the music, all to be screened at the 2017 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from Sept. 7-17. From Lesley Barber’s score for Bird, to Academy Award winner Mychael Danna’s work with his brother Jeff Danna in Alias Grace and The Breadwinner, to Andrew Lockington’s soundtrack to Meditation Park, SOCAN members are out in full force this year.

Increasingly, songwriters who usually create music for themselves, or their bands, are making the transition to scoring movies. Among those making the leap in this year’s crop of TIFF movies are Timber Timbre, Robi Botos, Brendan Canning (of Broken Social Scene), Murray Lightburn (of The Dears), and Spencer Krug (of Moonface, Wolf Parade, and Sunset Rubdown).
