The 28th Montréal SOCAN Awards Gala – Oct. 16, 2017, at La TOHU – saw many new SOCAN Classic Awards given out to their creators. Three of Luc De Larochellière’s songs reached that enviable status. Of the three, two – “Cash City” and “Six pieds sur terre” – were co-written with Marc Pérusse, and published by Kennebec Musique and Les éditions Janvier. The third, “Si j’te disais reviens,” was written by De Larochellière alone, and published by Kennebec Musique only. A SOCAN Classic is a song that’s been played at least 25,000 times on the radio since it was written, and has to have been written at least 20 years ago.

SOCAN was on the red carpet to capture De Larochellière’s reaction. During this interview, he admits he’s glad to have reached the “Classics” stage of his long, ongoing career; tells us about the writing process for those three songs; and discusses the importance of SOCAN in the careers of songwriters.
