Want to get “JUNO-ready”? Apply now for 2017 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class

June 5, 2017

SOCAN members ambitious enough to prepare for a JUNO Award in their future can apply now for the third annual edition of the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class, a Canadian artist development program that combines music education and promotion of excellence to help three new and emerging artists become “JUNO-ready.” The program aims to provide each participant with the essential tools, unique opportunities and priceless connections to allow them to amplify their careers and to help them on their journey to the JUNO Awards stage.

Applicants require a The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) delegate endorsement. Their music will be judged by JUNO Award-winning artists and producers to determine the Top 10 finalists. The Top 10 will have their work reviewed by a "super jury" –  including Arkells' Max Kerman, Lights, Kardinal Offishall, and producer Gavin Brown – who'll then pick the three winners. The 2017 winners were Vancouver-based indie-rock band Youngblood, Nova Scotia pop-electronic group Neon Dreams, and Winnipeg hip-hop ensemble The Lytics.

The winners will receive an all-inclusive trip to Toronto for an intensive mentorship week with Canada’s Music Incubator at Coalition Music, with industry leaders and Canadian artists taking part as mentors. The week will culminate with a music industry showcase night in Toronto. The winners will also enjoy a trip to the 2018 JUNO Awards in Vancouver, complete with tickets to JUNO Week events and a showcase opportunity during JUNOfest and a docu-series capturing their journey, which will run on JUNOTV.ca. They’ll also get studio time at Slaight Music Recording Studios, and more! One of the three winners will get the chance to perform at the 2018 JUNO Gala Dinner & Awards.

Artists can apply here, and can watch the 2018 submissions video here. Submissions for 2018 are open now, and will close on June 30, 2017 at 5:00 PM EDT. The Top 10 finalists will be announced online at www.junomasterclass.ca in August of 2017, and the three winners will be revealed in September of 2017.
