Stan Meissner, President and Chair of SOCAN’s Board of Directors, will serve as one of the mentors at SongStudio 2017, the 13th annual edition of a week-long immersion in songwriting, for writers at all levels.

In addition to sharing what he’s learned during his SOCAN tenure, Meissner will draw from his experiences as an award-winning songwriter. Steven Page (ex-Barenaked Ladies) will also spend a few days at SongStudio, as will songwriter/author/educator Shelly Peiken (who co-wrote “What A Girl Wants” for Christina Aguilera, and “Bitch” for Meredith Brooks). Other guests and mentors will be announced over the coming weeks.

Held on the campus of the Royal Conservatory of Music in downtown Toronto, SongStudio has room for 50 songwriters and runs daily July 22–28, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with open mics and other events every evening.

Founded by seasoned songwriters and SOCAN members Rik Emmett and Blair Packham, the SongStudio workshop provides a rich exploration into the craft of building and editing songs, and how songwriters fit into the music industry. SongStudio provides an opportunity for songwriters to work with veteran mentors who have a lifetime of experience to share, and this year is no exception.
