October 24, 2017

Roots trio Washboard Union won the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year honour, for their song, “Head Over Heels,” at the 41st annual British Columbia Country Music Awards (BCCMAs), held Oct. 22, 2017, in the Molson Canadian Theatre at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

The winning song was co-written by members Chris Dunner, David Roberts, and Aaron Grain, as well as Phil Barton, and is co-published by Canadiana Music, Better Boat Music (BMI) and the Warner Tamerlane Publishing Company (BMI).

The band also earned six other awards at the gala: Group, Entertainer, Single, Roots Artist and Website of the Year, as well as the Fans Choice Award. But they’re no strangers to the process of collecting awards, having already earned three Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) awards, a Western Canadian Music Award, and four previous BCCMAs.

SOCAN congratulates Washboard Union, Phil Barton, the band’s music publishers, and their entire team, on these latest honours in their continuing success story.
