Sixteen-year-old YouTube and social media phenomenon Jake Donaldson played for our Toronto staff, performing three songs from his upcoming debut album, on Feb. 13, 2018, in the Harmony Lounge.

Playing sampled sounds on a laptop, and accompanied on acoustic guitar by his producer/manager Ryan Guay, Donaldson offered three compelling versions of songs from his debut album, expected later in 2018: a sneak preview of the unreleased song “Anyone,” a take on his current single “Options,” and a solo piano ballad, ”Sing You.”

"Options" has earned almost 40,000 spins on Spotify, and that’s only one indication of Donaldson’s already impressive, self-made career. The online teen sensation has earned more than 100,000 followers on Facebook, more than 115,000 subscribers on YouTube, and more than 30,000 followers on Instagram. His 2016 "Guys vs. Girls" mash-up has earned more than 100 million total views across all social media platforms.

And from songwriting and production, to planning choreography, to video production and editing, SOCAN member Donaldson does it all himself. For “Options,” typically, he co-wrote the song (with Guay and Adam Tune), performed it for the recording, then shot and edited the video.

Jake Donaldson is a face to watch as his career continues to blossom.
