Sarah Toussaint-Léveillé

Singer-songwriter

Song – "La Mal lunée" - Now playing...

Bio
Variously influenced by blues, folk, jazz and reggae music, Sarah Toussaint-Léveillé’s songs have the rare ability to bring tears and laughter at the same time. A 2008 national Cégep en spectacle winner in the singer-songwriter category, she pursued her songwriter training at the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée, in Quebec’s Gaspé region, where she studied with Marc Chabot and Marc Pérusse, among others. After winning a gold medal at the Canadian Francophonie Games, she took part in many professional multicultural shows including Passion Francophonie in Moncton, N.B., and Quebec City in 2008, Les Rencontres qui chantent in Vancouver in 2009, and L’Union fait la force (a benefit performance for Haiti) in 2010.

That same year, Toussaint-Léveillé worked for some time with the singer-songwriter Edgar Bori at Montreal’s Cabaret Libre Influence, and took part in the Chanson de Parole Festival in Barjac, France. In 2011, she won second prize in the “Chante en français” competition as well as three awards from the Festival de la chanson de Saint-Ambroise, including the SOCAN Best Song Award. Accompanying herself mostly on guitar, but also on ukulele or piano, Toussaint-Léveillé continues to expand her cultural and musical interests while working on her first album.
